hi, sorry, must've missed this one.. here goes...

    - too old, latest 6.x version is 6.6.0.16..

    - firmware is 1 version behind, BYS3 os here - http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A

    - yup, Nero's too old to recognise your burner, update Nero

    - DMA needs to be ON, but i don't think i've come across UlSata & st3shark ports before..fix the other things and hopefully someone wlse will pop by and comment on those..

    - you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - fantastic choice in discs

    - splat!

    - i think you still need DMA to be ON for that Western Digital hard disk, still not sure how yet as i'm new to these SATA ports..but i don't think this is affecting the other error in the log, below....this time..

    - i'm pretty sure that this is indicative of the dive refusing to use/recognise those cd's, try different cd media..

tried using different media...still no luck

the only place i can see where a problem could have occurred is with the firmware flash to BYS3. however, i am almost certain the flash was done succesfully (now i can burn dvd-r).

if all else fails, can i reflash firmware back to BYS2 (original firmware). this is my friends dvd-rw so i am proceeding very cautiously.

i've also heard that this drive is a rebadged lite-on, and that a cross-flash is possible. will that solve my problem? if u could give me any input i'd appreciate it.

...going to look into the DMA thing...

there are apparently 2 lasers in a dvd burner, one for cd's and one for dvd's. so it's always possible that your burner needs replacing i suppose.
