well, i did the instructions correctly and whenever i open the program itself, it says "target nec nd-2500a is not found correctly" and in the status box it says "spti ready" when i click OK on the error msg, the program exits....for the sony dvd-r's, the max speed was that one on the log, fast as it can go for those...plus this burner came with my gateway pc...and i read the following on the site

The NEC firmware upgrade below should not be used with external USB / FireWire drives or with OEM drives from HP, DELL, Medion, Fujitsu, Siemens, Gateway, or any other OEM manufacturer. If you wish to update the firmware on an OEM drive, please contact the dealer or manufacturer.

    what should i do?

Ok forget the link. The problem is your disks. Your drive is only compatible with 8x disks, not 16x. You need to buy some new disks, 8x ones.

No probs. When you buy your disks, make sure you buy good ones like Sony, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Don't buy Memorex or Phillips or TDK etc.

    Only the ones mentioned.
