Hi guys! My friend has a problem when burning a data dvd and I hope that someone could help me with this. Nero says illegal disc and I haven´t got a clue wtf to do. Drive is NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A in Fujitsu Siemens laptop and I couldn´t find newer firmware in it. Discs are Fujifilm and Sony DVD-R. The problem came after formatting and reinstalling windows. It's recognizing the media as -r but then using +r write stratigy and setting burn at 2.4x. It could be a compatibilty issue caused by this Get roxio zapper to remove that.
Ok, tried that but unfortunately it didn´t help. :/ Any suggestions? Here´s new log from nero. Hi pkaksp Have you tried any other media - like 8x? Laptop burners seem much pickier w/ 16x media. Mine is not too fond of it. Usually the illegal disc bit is because the firmware doesn't have the media codes for the disc you are using. Another sign is not getting a burn speed higher than 2.4x - can also mean drive isn't recognizing it. Looks like the last firmware for this was in 2004. Physical memory : 495MB Free physical memory: 75MB Memory in use : 84 % Try and free up some memory - 84% in use.
I have a problem burning DVD-R I used to be able to burn them but no longer will play them. I can burn +r. I tried updating firmware but to no avail. Could someone take a look at this error log and see if you can make sense of it please, Thanks! Sorry I said in the previous post that It would no longer play -R but it will play them just not burn.
Hi Garcia65 The illegal disc error you're getting usually means that the media codes/write strategy for the dvd's you are using is not included in the firmware. The firmware is up to date but your drive still doesn't like the Sony 16x you're using. If the max burn Nero will allow for this disc is 2.4x that's another indication that the drive doesn't have the firmware to support these. What brand and rated speed of the +R media is working for you? For the -R's try another brand like Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji or Maxell. Get 8x media if you can.
Thanks alot binkie7! Told my friend to try 8x media and u know what, it worked. Solution was so simple.
Thanks for the suggestion I have tried other media but no luck. My burner used to burn these Sony disc at 8X but now only 4X. This all started when I had to reinstall Windows XP after trying Vista for a while.
@pkaksp You're welcome Glad that did the trick! @Garcia65 You can try uninstalling the ide channel (secondary) - rebooting and let windows do it's thing & reinstall. Right click on 'my computer' > properties> hardware tab > device manager. Click on the + sign next to ide/ata controllers. Right click on secondary > uninstall. What other brand did you try? Like Verbatim +R 16x What are the burn speeds Nero lists when the disc is in the drive?
This is the info from my drive I tried to unistall like you said no luck. I am getting very upset with this thing. Thank You for your suggestions anymore help would be welcome. I can feel ya on the frustration trying to get this burner to burn. Laptop burners aren't the best imho. The only other suggestion I can offer is use 8x media only. The external is not a bad idea - better to have this drive read and let the external burn. It's one reason I picked up an external
Sorry Garcia65 forgot 1 thing from your log: Disc Information (D:\) ------------------- Type : Blank DVD-R The drive knows there's a dvd -r there just doesn't give the rest of the info it usually does - like burn speeds. So it doesn't fully recognize it hence the illegal disc error.
