You can turn the dma back on the cd drive: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues Use can use some more ram but until then free up as much as possible. No multi-tasking and shut down any unnecessary process. Good media - firmware update may help with the illegal disc & write errors. InCD can cause problems so uninstall it and run the InCD clean tool. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html After you try the above suggestions I'd bump this up to 4x to start.
