Not a good choice of media, try something better such as Verbatim, Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

    Media choice.

Unless you use this program, it would be wise to uninstall it if you can, although it is more difficult to do with Nero 7. This program causes many problems. Make sure you have it disabled in your startup.

Try burning at 4x, it may make a difference.

just passing by and was mesmerised by arniebear's cool new signature gif :)

..so made my journey useful to chip in with -

    - if this is a Fujitsu-Siemens OEM drive, 1.04 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1930

    - you've got no free memory left, you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory

not its a lec or something like that.
i have disabled that INCD thingy already cos not after installing it today it slowed things up so i killed it at start up.
Can i uninstall it on its own?
as for media i have tryed
maxell, datawrite, mrdvd and i still get the same message i have also tryed chaging the speed but that hasnt helped either

uninstall Nero normally then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD

You got to free up some memory for Nero to work well, close down some of your running processes/programs, no multi-tasking, no internet.

You have InCD installed this is a known causer of problems, you still need to uninstall.

TDK disks are not any better media, the mfr is CMC Mag which also mfr Memorex and other low quality media. If you are going to buy the use Sony, Maxell, Verbatim or Fuji.

when i was running nero i closed everything else down.
and iv tried using Maxell discs too.Plus others and still i have problems. The In-Cd i only installed yesterday and uninstalled last night obviously theres still a driver floating about on my system which ill get rid of in a minute but i had these problems before installing the In-cd anyway

ok here we go again.i went through my hole system and uninstalled/deleted everything to do with nero.
then started from scratch and made sure that incd wasnt installed.

tryed to burn again after a while i got this message
a non critical error occured during the operation which may result in a defective write.
do you wish to continue the write anyway

i clicked yes..then after another few minutes i got this
burn process failed at 4x (5,540kb/s)

and again here is my latest log

    - that's what happens from being TDK, it's a lottery as to whether you get good or bad discs, you'll never know what disc manufacturer made them just buy looking at the tub of disks, see this link from my signature for reasons not to buy TDK/CMC - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232406

some things outstanding from since i last replied -

    - is the burner a Fujitsu-Siemens OEM drive ??, if so 1.04 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1930

    - you've got no free memory left, you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory

    - well that sounds self explanatory, you need to shorten the name of the ISO youre burning

    - 4458MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - ugh!, see my frst comment

    - see previous comment

no its not a Fujitsu-Siemens its a Lec something or other..
    on a cybermaxx medion laptop
im giving up buying more different discs iv spent god knows how much on discs and none work
    as for
"you've got no free memory left, you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory
    "
i wasnt running anything lol..nothing atall.even killed any processes in taks manager and done mega clean up of laptop before trying nero.it was nero that was hogging all the memory lol

    when you say
"4458MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space"

do u mean im trying to burn to much onto the disc?
would removing a few files make this better?

Perhaps we all should back-up a little. It seems like there is too much emphasis on advanced issues.

Googling "cybermaxx medion" does not give me great confidence in that machine. Anything computer that can be bought at "Toys R us" does not sound good.

Another red flag is that is has a NERO version of 7... Latest & greatest, so to speak, but any thing new can and does tend to be "buggy".

It would help if we got the info from the "NERO INFO TOOL" scan. There does seem to be questions about what DVD drive is in place in the laptop.

It looks like the disc is trying to be copied "on the fly". Personal experience is it only works if there are no other issues. Better to create a folder on HD & burn from it. Perhaps that is why there is not enough memory. Nothing is really as easy as you want. Do it by the numbers.

Is the DVD drive a "+" or "-" model? Oh heck, I've not had these kind of problems. Hundreds of burns. Looks like a lot of settings are way off.

    Good Night.

    TC

I think that it is a defective machine/set-up. I google & bring up links and I see too many "refurbished" references. For the price, eh not worth it. If I get it for free and it craps out, no problem. For my hard earned cash & it's cheap, a little heartburn if quality issues might arise. Good bucks for something that might go sour on me....a case of the arse.

The perception that there are advanced issues was, and are, my own.

@Creakey - comment taken to heart. If you do not assemble your computer yourself, after researching and buying the components and then installing the software, you are prone to having problems. Regardless of everything being billed as "PNP", you still have to know what you are getting. Darned firmware & such.

@hel8itch - We all go through a learning curve. It sucks. I think that you have a lemon. Also learn to kick your self in the butt. Anything you buy today will be obsolete as soon as you take it out the door.

Off topic = Yes. Sorry. Can we digress to "Cathode Ray Tubes"?

    @Buik

yeah, as long as you didn't think i was getting at ya.

anyways it's always possible that a hardware issue lies behind these kind of problems, but i just attack the logs and go from there, usually it's bad media/downrev firmware etc etc, but you're quite right, there's always a chance it's something else. i like Nero logs in particular as they summarise a burning setup real well and if the log is dissected and all settings tweaked at least we've had a good head start in pinpointing the problem(s).

just to add to the strangeness of it all.
A few weeks ago i used Dvdsanta to burn a dvd, using a disk i tried once with nero and nero didnt recognise it atall.and dvdsanta worked.now i havent had time to test dvdsanta again but i will do some time in the next few days.
Lets say dvdsanta does work with the disks, what would be the problem?

The problem would be not easy to say. The better question would be if one program say the media is crap and another program will burn to it anyway are you willing to trust your only copy of your wedding day or childs birth or something like that on the media? For simple movie backups I say use any media you can get to work. For important stuff use trustworthy media.
