I am trying to back up my copy of Godzilla (1998) using DVD Shrink with Nero, and it completely finishes encoding (takes like 20 minutes), then it pops out the disk and says Illegal Disk and gives me this error: Pretty Serial Number Spot =) Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 10:35:32 AM Nero API version: 6.6.0.8 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DW-D22A> Version: BFS1 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.6.0.8 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DW-D22A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y200M0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD RW DW-D22A D: CDRom0 HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163 E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1535MB (1572204kB) Free physical memory: 869MB (890020kB) Memory in use : 43 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) I am using Memorex DVD-R (16x, 4.7GB, 120min). Can someone help me to get this burn finished? I can't figure out what's wrong.
Hi missydney Post the rest of the log under this line: Check supported media : Disabled (0) - whole thing is better. Edit out your serial # too - begins w/ 1A20. Don't need someone else getting it! Nero can use an update to - since your using Shrink use this version 6.6.0.18. Here's some links: Package 1 http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2 (recode & vision) http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe The discs you using maybe part of the problem too - either made by CMC (poor) or Ritek (good). The rest of the log will tell us this. edit: fix links

Okay besides updating Nero - here's a few more suggestions: Well you didn't hit the jackpot with these. Poor quality. Let's try switching to some quality brands - Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. In store look for made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. These use azo dye which is great - highly compatible w/ burners & players. Set your target size in Shrink lower - 4360. Won't be burning to the edge of the disc. Turn this option off. You are using -R discs which don't support booktyping - only +R do. Let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise!
So, I really just need to buy new disks? Like DVD +R, right? I can do that tomorrow then. What can I do with the crap load of disks I already have? Can't backup movies onto them. What should I do with them?
Hmmm frisbee maybe Sorry for the bad news missydney but I've been there and done that w/ CMC. IMO not worth putting the movies (or anything really) on them. Even if they burn - they end up degrading. If you're in the US Best Buy has a 25 pack of Verbs on sale for $7.99. If you want to booktype then yes you'll need the +R ones. Oh and update the Nero too to the links above. Keep us posted!
xmas isnt that far away, decorations on the xmas tree or better yet, they are good as dog chew toys or mini frisbees
