    Thanks Gwen,

but I am really new to this and still fuzzy on the link you provided. Dont know what to update or download. I never changed any options or settings when I've burned. and i'm hesitant about updating stuff, specially if it has warnings..... my problem just started outof no where. I was able to burn dvd-r before, but now does not let me. I can burn a cd-r,which really does not make sence to me. Have you solved similiar problems?

Firmware updates are important and Gwendolin pointed you to the correct one. That page warns everyone about flashing the wrong drive, but this is the correct firmware site for your drive. Just click on the link, and then click on BSG5 or BSG3 as either one are an update to what you have. Just follow the directions on the update, and you will be fine. I would go with the BSG5, as it is listed as the latest. Firmware updates are the drives manufacturers write stratigies for different and newer media. Sometimes it also updates an older drive to be able to burn faster.
