Hiya, folks. I have been having some problems lately with by DVD burner. Although I was initially able to burn files from my computer onto a disc in the past using BOTH Nero and DVDScript, I am no longer able to do so. Lately, when trying to make data DVDs, it brings up something about "illegal disc" and "session fixation error". I've tried it on discs from three different brands now (Maxell, Verbatim, and Memorex), so it's not the media. My drive is a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S. The computer itself is almost brand-spanking new, only a year old, and the burner has only been used a few times, so I refuse to believe the burning drive is shot. For the record, the drive can still read CDs/DVDs, it just can't burn files onto them.

Here is a copy of the Nero log. Any assistance anyone can provide to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I looked at some other forums and found that most suggested updating the firmware. So I've downloaded the most recent firmware for my drive, but I try to install it, it says:

    "No matched drive detected!
This utility is only for LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S drive.

    Detected drives:
    4-0-0-0 E:LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S BGS4"

So, in other words, I can't install the utility because my drive doesn't match the drive required, despite the fact that it IS the drive required. Sooo... what do I do now?

    Hi ChukAmuk
Is the LiteOn an oem? (came w/ the pc). If it is than you can check the pc manufacturers site for a firmware update. They aren't always the best though at keeping up on the drives to make sure they handle newer media.

Another option is to use crossflash enabled firmware for the drive. A little riskier and if the drive is still under warranty will void it.
Here's a link for BSOY - you would use the patched cross flash one.
    http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html
Alot of memory in use - free some up. No multi tasking and close any unnessecary programs.

    Keep us posted!

Thanks for the help! The crossflash enabled firmware did the trick.

For the record, the drive is an OEM, but I think the warranty has already expired: it was for one year, and it's a few months past that.

But all is well now (or so it seems ;)). I will make another post here if I need any more help. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do to free up more memory. Thanks again! :)

    No problemo ChukAmuk :)
Glad to hear that did the trick!

    Happy Burning!
