My recorder has really started to act up alot and now it won't let me record. I'm using the correct dvd's, have tried factory and non-factory upgrades, updates, etc. When you put the dvd in and press record or use the "on screen menu" option, it just reads the disc forever. If you can get it to abort, the disc is ruined because it writes just enough to ruin the disc. Is it time to take it to the shooting range or is there one last thing I can try? Please help.

If it's not covered by your warranty anymore you can try to clean the laser ... you rally need to remove the drive to do this ... If that doesn't work, you can replace the drive with a LiteOn PC unit ... BTW, this makes the machine better than new!

Thank you for the info:), I actually did get it back to working order. I believe it was because I used many different "updates", system or drive only, then hacked updates, back to 1098 update, it wasn't until I updated (or really went back to) the old 1097 update that the machine was cured. I believe it was mentioned somewhere in these threads that the 1097 was better than the 1098. My machine is the DVD04 (no hard drive). Thanks again.
