I have an ilo dvdr04 that I have had for a couple of years now. With in the past couple of weeks the tray will not stay shut unless I hold it shut and turn it off. A couple of months ago it wouldn't stay shut if a disc was in it but would stay shut without a disc. Now it will not stay shut and at times it will open with out the power being on and no one in the room to open it. Can anyone tell me if there any way to fix this problem so I can watch dvds or is it just trash now? Thanks

    That machine must be possessed
Just kidding. I don’t see how the tray could operate with the power completely off. When you say power is off, do you mean the plug is pulled or the power is turned off with the unit or remote power button pressed? If so, the power is not really off and activating the tray, [open/close], will start the unit and open the tray.
Anything is possible. I have had some problems but never one as you describe. The problem could be an intermittent or stuck control on the unit or the remote.[A long shot] Also there is a switch in the DVD unit itself that is activated by the open/close of the tray . If this is intermitent or not properly activated it could cause problems as discribed
Such a problem might be repaired
The 04 is worth a fix. The drive can be rplaced

    PS
Has anything been spilled on the remote that might cause this like a intermittent or stuck keyboard on a computer [again long shot]

Its the ghost playing tricks on me LOL. The player is plugged in put I know the power button is off. Nothing has been spilled on the remote or the unit itself. It just started out of the blue and I'm pretty sure the button on the remote is not stuck. It is possible that it could be the switch in the machine that knows when the thing is open or closed because at times when I close the tray and it opens back up it still says it is closed or vice versa. Do you know how I could check to see if the switch is the problem? Thanks

To check You will have to remove the drive. That requires removal f the plastic trim piece [on fromt of ulit] from the tray. The tray must be open and the ulnt un-puged and the drive moved back, than the 4 screws on the top cover removed and the cover removed. The switch is at the front of the drive but it may not be the problem. after some 2 years the laser assembly may not be closing all the way and this would prevent the unit to function correctly. What you say points to this. Again it might be corrected but could be nothing but problems

Is the unit hacked. do you have need for a MV free recorder. If Not you may be better off getting another unit, If yes and you do, the ilo [now discontinued]is well worth some effort. As to a drive replacement and this can also be a problem. Check these sites and threads. some of the latest drives do not work correctly. The undertaking can be a pain/

I have 2 ilo RHD04 units and a R0-4 with a LiteOn 1693s drive in it and it works very well
If you decide to repair/relace the drive I belive the people at the sites given will help
While I have no need for another unit, should you decide to get another unit, don't junk the ilo, It will be of value to some
