I bought an ILO DVDR05 machine several months ago with 2 intentions in mind, to play DVDs and to record digital 8 tapes onto a DVD. During these first months I only used the playback mode to watch DVDs. I was pleased. Now, after I have thrown the box away, and lost the receipt, I tried the DVD burner and have had NO SUCCESS!. 1. I plug in my Sony Digital 8 camera to the front RCA jacks. 2. I insert a NEW Memorex DVD+R 120 minute blank disc into your machine. 3.It tells me that I need to format it if I want to record to the disc so I enter YES. 4.It completes or at least the screen indicating it is doing something suddenly disappears. 5.With the burner remote, I select the video 2 front panel (RCA jacks) as the source. 6. I start the Sony camera; it displays the video tape on my TV screen. 7.I push the RECORD button on the remote control of the burner. 8. I get the RECORD icon in the upper right hand of the TV screen. 9. When I am done recording I push the STOP button on the burner remote. 10. A quick screen, blurb or icon momentarily displays on my screen, but disappears before I can read it. 11. Then I push the OPEN/CLOSE button on the burner remote 12. The burner machine asks me if I want to finalize the disc so it can be viewed on another player. I enter YES. 13. The machine displays a view that indicates it is working and finalizing the disc. 14. It never completes and gives one of these results: A--Disc error- It says it has an error and could not finalize. If I try to record over it the front display indicates BADDSC, which I assume means BAD DISC B----The view indicates the machine is working and never completes or should I say I let it run for two hours and it would not complete a disc. I finally shut the machine down and then it claimed the disc had an error. It tries to retrieve data but never gets it done. It tells me the disc is dirty or scratched and would not complete. C-----I have tried recording 60 minutes 120 minutes and 50 minutes of video from the camera and every try fails. I heard that putting to much video on a disc does not allow enough space to finalize, does not matter with my machine. Bottom line all I get is nice shiny coasters for our furniture. I have 5 new coaster and NO NEW RECORDED DVDs. This is a terrible product and because I was lazy I am stuck with this piece of junk. I looked on the internet and I see many people have bought this unit to record DVDs but they got the same over-priced coaster just like me. They were a little smarter than me and returned their DVD burner for an 8 track tape player. Do you have any suggestions? This is very disappointing and I will not by an ILO product again.
You might try a different brand of disc. I have heard of all sorts of different brands being used with people having luck with different brands in different machines. Good Luck! I tried the ILO discs at first and had coaster after coaster, and went to another brand and have (knock on wood) not had a coaster since.
