ilo DVDR05ZU

    I purchased an ilo DVDR05ZU recorder. Nowhere in the booklet does it tell you what X DVD to use. I started off with DVD+R 16X..Well that was a mistake, I ended up with more frizbies then I wanted. I went to ilo website and looked up their FAQ, and I came across infor on using 4X or 8X but reccomends 4X DVD+R and RW+...well the 8X didn't work either. But guess what did work and works every time? DVD-R 1-16X. And they play in all my other DVD players. Why do they tell you to use DVD+R and DVD+RW if DVD-R works? Will it do any damage to my recorder using them? Should I continue to use them if they work fine?

    I had the 05 ZU -- MU and now the MU1

    If you can exchange the ZU for the MU or MU1 I would do it. Both are superior to the ZU and the edit is far better. I can see no difference between the MU or MU1. The MU1 according to ilo has an newer model of the Mediatek chip. [Firmware for the MU will not work on the MU1]

    All the 05 units are listed as recording to a + disk only some users state that they can record to a - disk. I have not had any luck with -disks. If your machine will not record to a + disk there is something wrong. I have used many different mfg, disks and have had no problem. Try a Vebatim + disk. If they will not record, For sure take it back.

    The first disks I purchased are Verbatim + and had problems with them, then I prchased Memorex +, no luck with them either. I do have NO problem with the Verbatim DVD+RW, and I have good luck with the Verbatim DVD-R. I am going to call ilo tomorrow (Monday) and see what they have to say.

    I took back my DVDR05ZU and exchanged it for the MU1. I am a happy camper now. So far it has not made one bad disk, everything is recording just fine. What a big difference!
