Problems with this machine. This time it seized to recognize DVD+R disks and is determined to treat them as DVD+RW disks. It tries to prepare them as such and in the process it ruines them. Tried over 12 different brands. The entire unit slows down when it prepares disks to the point that it accepts no commands from remote or buttons on unit. Eventually, after 15 minutes or so it spits out the disk and asks for new one... only to ruin it too. I put in new firmware (1201) but it did not help. I tried cleaning lenses but it did not help. ILO tech support says I need a new DVD drive and must pay for it.
This unit was of poor quality from the start. Sound recorded from Sat and other coax sources delivers annoying hum. This is my second ILO machine. The first one suffered from the freeze of death so many ILOs do whereas the machine freezes on power on (hello message) and goes no further. This is not a fixable issue and ILO offeref replacement for it only. The first machine lasted only 2 days. The current 2 months.
Never again will I buy Liteon / ILO product.

Oh, yeah forgot to add that all of the disks recorded with this machine no longer work, finalized, played in different dvd players for a while, but now pooooh, gone. yep, my entire collection gone, just like that. It plays commercial DVDs just fine though.

I'm not Sure of a question. I see your problem but pushing buttons on the remote or the ilo will not remedy a problem, omly compond it.
I have 4 Ilo units 2 with HDD, 3 are over a year old, No problems
I will try to help if I can
    You say 2 months old
The last 04 units that I am aware of were a Dec 04 Date. If you realy are not satisfied take it back to WalMart for a refund
If you want PM me. I would purchase it

I'm having the same problems with my DVDRHD04. It trys to prepare a DVD+R Disc, then corrupts it. It will record on a DVD-RW, but won't finalize. I've had it record regular DVD's that finalize, but won't play in the recorder, but will play in a read only unit, but then will corrupt if placed in the recorder again. I've had then ole lockups happen where I have to unplug it from the wall. As for the corruption when splitting tracks, I've found that you have to do it slow and easy as it cannot read and write but one thing at the time, so you have it split a track, wait a few seconds for it to settle down and then proceed "Slowly". I'm doing another firmware upgrade and I will post my results.

    Hi.
I hope im in the right place to ask this question about my Ilo DVDRHD04, i had it for 2 years and dont remember what firmware i have on it right now but it has been working very good all the time until yesterday, i rented silent hill and when i put the dvd in its say no disc, i restarted the Ilo nothing its likes the player dont find the disc, i can hear it start spinning, tried some audio cds some burned dvds nothing only no disc, so i wnt to see if there was any updates for it, so i burned it on a cd, but the problems is the Ilo doesnt recognize any cd or dvd in the drive.
Any one have any tips to what to do???
    Any suggestions thanks,
    Mikael

Yeah, i got help too. I took the cover off the unit first. Then i peeled back the copper tape from the drive. Removed the 4 screws holding the cover on the drive. used compressed air to blow out the dust. then cleaned the eye with a lint free swab and alcohol. then reassembled everything. it will now read discs, but now i'm having problems with it only preparing the +rw blanks. don't know what to do now.

    I have Two ilo/LightOn RHD04 units a LightOn 5045 with a replacement LightOn 1693s DVD drive and a ilo R04.
They have features that I desire and I would not part with them, even though the LiteOn/ilo can be trying at times
However If I didn't require these features I would most likely select a more friendly unit

    As to Help
The problems and many others have been brought up many times before. They can cover many issues
If commited to the Ilo units. I would suggest these sites.

    http://www.techolio.com/

    http://www.normediasolutions.com/portfolio/

    http://www.ncc2315.com/ilo/

    Added Info
Many Players will not properly address a recording made on these units and for that matter many other units also, Especially +RW disks

I do Not Use My LiteOn/ilo units for general play. For that I use Cyberhome players, the 300 series. they are Cheap, about $30. will play anything including a bagle.
Ive had two for 18 mos and they work great. when they quit and can't be fixed. Throw them away and get another
