    I have had nothing but problems with this unit from day 1. I've updated the firmware and it really doesn't seem to affect this problem' here what is happening. When I copy anything from the HDD to the DVD, it will play fine as long as I don't finalize it. So then if I finalize the disc, it will play ok until I put it in another player, after that, it will not play again in the recorder, only in a player. The recorder returns the error "invalid Disc", but remember it plays in my dvd "player". Thanks thoughts on this problem. AC

    I've had the same problem (and more). My advice to anyone buying this unit is, DON'T! But I must say I have worked with and purchased similiar products and found that they work great for a few months to a year and then don't. I have a RCA unit that will burn disks but not play the ones they burn or you burn a program and the disk won't finalize. I don't know if it is the cheap parts used in manufacturing the lasers or the way the units burn the "1's and o's" but these set-top DVD burners tend to be flaky at best. Buyer beware.

    I just a a few questions about the HDDR04..
    When you upgraded the firmware did you use the upgraded firmware for the HDDR04 or just the DR04 upgrade?
    This will make a difference since it being a whole different memory..
    The ones that I know of and have had there units upgraded with the HDDR04 firmware have been running flawless and when they finalize the disc it plays fine in the recorder that it was burnt in..
    You know the way electronics go..either they work or they don't..like a slight electrical problem on a car, you bring it in and it doesn't happen..you drive down the road and there you go, it is there again..

    Hi iLO4ME, I have 2 HD04s (with replacement drives now, Liteon SMH 160PS03). You can only update firmware with the appropriate one and for the HD04,that would be the 0201 update. This update has made the HD04 work as advertised. I would not try to update the HD04 with the R04 firmware (0098) as this may cause some problems, crash the unit or maybe just reject the disc, only to say the R04 firmware is not made for the HD04 and vice-versa.

    Cheers,

    Hi iLO4ME, if you mean the 201 (August 2005 I believe) for the HD04, yes it is MV free when passed through Mr. Wizard's tool. The HD04 is discontinued. I also have a few R04s, I use one as a hacked player (the others are spares) which can be used with any other recorder to back-up my DVDs. This might be the way to go for you. I myself will be purchasing the Polaroid DMR 2001g, probably two the next time I'm in the States as this model has a Component line-in and can be easily supersized just by swapping the HD as long as it's a Western Digital HD, and from what I've read you can also replace the drive in the Polaroid if it ever breaks down. You might want to do a bit of research on this model.

    Cheers

    Hey Craz Canuk;
    Oh man, I have my ilo's going just great but what I really need to ask you is if I purchase the HDDR04 how can I find a disc to hack this model?
    I have the disc to hack the DVDR04's and I have been selling them on E-Bay with great response...
    I would want a disc for the hack for the HDDR04 so in case anything happens I can just reload it again with the disc...
    I appreciate the information that you are giving me on the HDD model because I am not familiar with this but I am very familiar with the DVDR04 and I rebuild them on the side.
    Please get back to me shortly...
    Thanx

    iLO4ME, here's the link to all of the information on Mr. Wizard's tool which you can download and a ton of firmware for iLO and Liteon (older models) products (factory and hacked versions). Take the time to read the information.
