I'm trying to burn an AVI file onto a dvd using Nero burning Rom SE. When I go to the drag and drop screen to add the file to be burned. The "Burns the current compilation" button is shaded out. Now before any of you shout me out. I'm new to all this dvd burning. My wife just bought me a Sony double layer dvd+-rw,r, so I still haven't figured this thing out. I was about to just get rid of it and not even deal with...but I had a change of heart. So can someone guide me through this is if I were retarded, I'm already half way there.

What version of Nero are you using? It sounds like you are using an old version? You can go to Nero.com and get the latest updates..

Also is this a file you are palnning on watching on your stand alone DVD palyer? If so you may need some more guidance as a simple drag and drop isn't going to work.. Let me know exactly what you are trying to achieve..

    cheers and welcome to AD

I'm using Nero Suite, I believe it's Nero burning rom 6. Yes this is a file that I intend on watching on my standalone dvd player. Thanks I appreciate your help. Also before I tried to burn this same file with Nero xpress, but it would take like 4 hours to burn. I definately know i'm doing something wrong, just don't know what it is. Thanks.

Well you were probably actually doing something right the first time it was going to take you 4 hours :) You see that AVI file need encoded into DVD compliant files and this will take time.

I have a very easy to follow guide at my website that will take you threw the whole process step by step. This will be the easiest way I can explain how to do this. Here is the link directly to the guide you will need. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DivXtoDVD.pdf

Good luck and let me know how it works out for you :)

Again thank very much.

When I started to convert the AVI file, it tells me that the "Video packet dropped due to errors on frame...." Does that mean that parts of the file were cut out? If so how can I fix that? I tried to do a search but couldn't find anything.
