ok this is my first time posting here and I have never had any experience authoring VCD's or SVCD's and I am in extreme need of some help. I have been looking all over the internet trying to figure out how to do it and downloading all sorts of programs all with no luck. So i would be forever in debt if someone were to guide me through the process!!!! I have a whole bunch of Xvid files that i want to be able to make into SVCDs, what do i do...

ronchipur: You can convert xvid to vcd but the quality would be pretty bad. SVCD's are just much better quality than vcd. Stick to SVCD.

I would say that's a generally true statement. However, Xvid and Divx are not locked in at any single standard resolution; so if you get a particularly poor quality Divx, it isn't going to give you any better result going with svcd as opposed to vcd. Garbage in, Garbage out. This is also mentioned in the tutorial I linked to:
But as I said, you generally will want to make svcd's as most are sort of optimized to do just that.
