I love IMGburn but it wont read DL discs on my BenQ1650.
I know the drive works because the same program burned DVD-5 B4 to it and DVDDecrypter and Nero burned DL on that drive.

I used the same blank disc on 2 drives, and had 2 different results.

    Hi.

ImgBurn only writes DVDs, unlike DVD DEcrypter which both reads and writes.

I guess your problem is that it won't recognize a DL blank DVD? Is that the problem?

Could it be the one that isn't recognized was a failed burn you thought was a blank disk? Have you tried another blank disk? Is it not recognized either?

ImgBurn will read a DVD and build an iso from it that you can burn to a DL, but you need AnyDVD to run behind it. If you want to build the iso from a file then you can rip with DVDFab and choose to build your iso from that.

It looks to me, since it's an MDS file, that he is trying to burn a disk and that the blank isn't being recognized.

The "good" shows a blank DL disk.

I tried to burn the same project saved to hard drive on 2 different DVD drives (@2 different times)
I've went to Imgburn homepage, BenQ homepage, cant figure out why that program will burn DL discs on the 1640 but not 1650. I have Imgburn enabled for .mds files, dont know why it wont listen to me.....................

The 1650 isn't recognizing the blank DL disk. Have you tried other DL blanks? Are they not recognized either in the 1650?

ImgBurn specifically doesnt recognize the disc.
I could turn on DVDDecrypter or Nero and problem solved.
I already have burnt the movie shown on that very drive with the disc I used to take the screenshots. Only I used Decrypter and I want this program to work for me.

Well this is a new one for me. ImgBurn is by the same guy who programmed DVD Decrypter so it seems very odd that ImgBurn won't recognize that Verbatim DL while DVD Decrypter will. Have you tried uninstalling ImgBurn and then doing a fresh reinstall? I have the BenQ 1655 which is the lightscribe version of the 1650 and ImgBurn works fine with Verbatim DLs with it. I just checked again. I don't burn DLs with the 1655 since it will only burn the Verbs at 2.4X. My NECs all burn them with decent quality at 4X so that's what I use for DL burns.

And how!!! I am glad that you have the same type of burner, I was thinking of renaming the thread to "Hey anyone use 1650 and ImgBurn?" LOL. I have unistalled, re-installed Shrink, Decrypter, and ImgBurn in the last week, but now we speak of it, I dont think I went in this order

I will do that soon and reply.

So can ImgBurn rip as well as burn or just burn? There really was no definitive answer, it kind of went back and forth.

Which one is better? I'm assuming that since ImgBurn was by the same dev it would retain many of the same properties that DVDdecrypter has plus additions that decrypter doesn't have.

I just would like the skinny on ImgBurn, so any of your opinions would help me out greatly.

You can kludge a rip with Imgburn. Just follow the link provided by Arniebear above. ImgBurn can rip unprotected disks or most any protected disk with something like AnyDVD running in the background.

I personally use them both. I use DVDDecrypter for ripping in conjunction with RipIt4Me and FixVTS and then use imgburn to burn the ISO I create with DVDRB. I also use a BenQ DW1650 which imgburn loves. No conficts there.

They are both excellent programs and should be in anyone's arsenal.

I use them both, I backup a lot of older movies and Decrypter still works fine on them without any help. RipIt4Me give it an added boost for those overly protected movies. Since I just want the movie only, I just rip that and run it through Shrink if needed. ImgBurn is an updated version of the burning engine in Decrypter and has a lot more bells and whistles, it is especially good for Dual Layer backups. Both programs have their good points and both are great to have for backups, and the fact that they are free makes them a must have :)
