My current plextor drive which up until now has ran flawlessly, has decided to go the way of the doe-doe. I use my burner to burn temporary copies of my movie collection for family to keep them from scratching my good copies. I just bought a 25 pack of ritek w06 DVD-RW disks and my current burner cannot handle them. Apparently DVD-RW disks are not backwards compatible and my 712-A will only burn at 6X. I need some suggestions on a good reliable burner for these disks. Some suggestions would help tons thank you.
I am looking at this drive right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827151133 Any opinions?
This is a excellent drive but the samsung from what I hear is also good quality. I currently have 2 liteon burners with no problems as of yet. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106042
I am not sure about the quality of the media, ritek I believe is ok media. can I ask why you use the rw media. most use the + or - r for burning. I use verbatim 16x or sony 8x mij media. Pretty much what's on sale that week.
I use the RW disks because I burn copies of what my family want to borrow. They then return them and I burn more, thus rewritable disks are the best for me. Way way cheaper than buying just recordable disks. I can reburn a RW disk tons of times.
Where do I start? 1. Ritek is bad media. Anybody here will tell you that. 2. Newegg is not the best place to shop. Been burned enough times. 3. Samsung is probably the worst burner on the market, in terms of compatibility. NEC ND-3550a's are cheap. So are Pioneer 111, even Lite-Ons (though the previous 2 are better). No need to mess around with Samsung, LG or other more dubious products.
