I just got my first DVD +/- RW. I never did get a cd writer so I am starting cold. Three pieces of software came with the DVD writer, INCD, Nero and Pinacle. For the mo I have no idea what Pinacle does so I will leave it aside. When I used INCD to copy files from my HD to DVD+RW disk it was easy enough, worked just like a floppy which was nice and easy. However when I then tried to use nero with this disk it would not work, Nero was not compatible with Incd. I also discovered any other PC I try to read this disk on has to have Incd installed on it, is this also true of Nero. For the moment I just want to copy files to disk. Which is the best way for doing this. Should I toss Incd and use Nero or visa versa. One other thing, when Incd was formatting the disk it said it would take about 120mins, is this right.

Also if I decide to use only Nero is there any way to reformat the disk I wrote to using Incd so I can then use it with Nero.

One other thing, having installed the software my DVD drive would not automatically run game disks when placed in the drive(autoplay). I'm sure Incd or maybe Nero caused this, is there a fix.
    Thanks.

Hi Trom. I'll try to help you sort this out. INCD is actually from the same outfit as Nero (Ahead). As you stated InCd lets you use a RW disc like a small HD. I started using it then had similar problems as you are having. Its kind of tempermental and also tries to access the drive 1st giving you problems with other burning at times. I uninstalled it and now use the Nero Express to add data to my rw discs. The problem with this is you can't just delete one file or folder. You need to erase the complete disc. But you can always add files to the rw at any time using multisession feature. The In Cd disc can be erased with Nero. You should be able reset the auto run feature for your drive in the device manager. Hope this helps.
I forgot to tell you how. Save any data or downloads to your HD.(I usually name a folder Downloads). Then open Nero to make a data disc, then click the add button on the right and browse to the saved location and add that file or folder. Then burn making sure multisession is checked.

Thanks for the help Jerry. I think I will do as you did and uninstall Incd and go with Nero. Its a pity as it a very nice tool, had it been compatible with Nero it would have been excellent. I wonder if this is common with this kind of application or are most of them compatible. However I dislike apps that try to hog the limelite. Knowing I can use multisession with Nero is fine for the moment.
I tried resetting autoplay in Device Manager among other things but I think I think I will have to live with it for the present unless uninstalling Incd does the trick, shuting down all the DVD RW apps with resource manager worked but it may reappear when I load them again. Microsoft say it a known problem with XP when you install a second CD/DVD writer and will be addressed in the next service pack.
