Both BTC and Emprex dual mode 8X burners have gotten very cheap. Either is on sale at Fry's Electronics weekly. I know Pioneer, Plextor, TDK etc. are better brands but can anybody say anything positive about either of these two cheapies? The prices are very tempting. Is there a preference for one of these over the other?

A few of my mates have bought the BTC writers and have had problems with them.
If you phone the suppliers they tell you to download the latest firmware. They seem to work o.k. after that.
They have a program that detects the firmware on your drive and then downloads the latest one for you.
This is only for BTC writers.

Emprex Dual 8x $60 when on sale a Fry's electronics. No rebate needed. Beige or Black bezel in package. Too good to be true? What is the reputation of Emprex?
