InCD is known to cause conflicts when burning to DVD's, if you don't need it I would look into removing it.

Hello an update.... after all was said and done and trying all the tricks i read in this forum about fixing the problem, liek updating firmware, updating Nero, heck i even read somewhere installing Musicmatch before Nero could mess up Nero and cause the error, BUT i finally got it to work just by changing my media. I went and purchased some TDK DVD's they were only 8x DVD's as compared to the Maxell's 16x ones i purchased (maybe that was the culprit right there the burner doesn't know how to recognize a 16x disc....????) But yes i put the TDK disc in and walla worked great the first time. Its just all kinda confusing since the DVD rating sites say Maxell is a very good brand to buy and even the guys i bought it from were puzzled cause they said it was good. Sooo.... for now the problem is fixed. thanks for helping!

It is always a good idea to start with the cheapest and easiest solutions first, such as changing media and updating programs...firmware updates are usually reserved for a last fix because a bad flash can ruin a drive. However, I like to lay it all out there for the poster(you) to decide what you do and don't want to try.

Anywhoo...I'm glad the problem is resolved for now.

    Happy burning.

Edit: Maxell is all I use, and IMHO they are some of the best available, so it is a suprise to me as well...notice I didn't suggest a media change.

The best advice it to do/use what works best for you, every systems tolerances are different.

I would agree with you on the Sony slant, I own several Sony products but don't always agree with their business practices.

You don't have alot of resources, try to free some up...no multitasking.

Other than the memory and the TDK blanks, I don't see a whole lot wrong with the log. If the +'s are working stick with them or try a whole new brand all together, like verbatim...taiyo yuden or sony, fuji, maxell(made in Japan).

Personally I would stick with the +R flavored discs and booktype 'em.

    And you are welcome.

Memorex, Imation, and the list goes on and on...terrible stuff really, stick with the brands that I posted earlier and you shouldn't have any problems.

Can someone take a look at my log, and illegal disc problem?
I just switched to 16X discs, and haven't been able to make any backups.

    Thanks.

I ran into this using a Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 and got the illegal Media error when I went to 16X disks from the 8X I was using before. Since 16X is all you find nowdays in printables, I figure I need to get this corrected or get another drive.

This is not caused by BAD MEDIA as has been stated so often in these forums. I don't know for sure why a 16X disk won't work properly in a 16X Dual Layer Dual Format disk, unless it is only suppoed to be 16X for CD's and not DVD's, which may be the case. I do know that the media burns fine with Nero on my laptop which is newer, so it's not the media, the Nero software, or the files being burned. It is the drive or the firmware (I have the most current flashed already).

Anyway, that much I know about the situation - if there are any gurus out there that know the answer I'd like to hear it. Thanks!

I most certainly and whole heartedly agree with Gwendolin. Media does matter and certain media is not good for ALL drives. Just because you have the latest firmware doesn't mean that you can play/record all media! It's what the manufacture put in the firmware the will recognize the disk..... and certain disks will play/record better for certain players/burners. If you have a 16x Dual Layer writer it SHOULD play/record all the up to date 16x media.... but for some reason can't. The reason is media .... there are so many out there and then so many manufacturers that make the media ...... you would think that the player/recorder manufacturer do a better job with firmware than they do...... that's why it's important to have the latest firmware update! My drive, Philips 8631, was a bad drive when it first came out and many people who bought DELLs that had this drive before 4/2005 made DELL replace the drive with an NEC drive! I was fortunate enough to be the lucky one that had this drive that works! and been burning ever since!
