informational search spyware?? it's shutting down my computer instantly

Hello all you good folks at Afterdawn, I have a bit of a problem. I bought an audio cd, totally legit soundtrack to the movie "living out loud" and tried to load it into my itunes. I would get 2 or 3 songs loaded then something would pop up saying "this cd has a block" or something to that affect and then my computer just totally turned off in an instant. Since then I tried to correct the problem myself by running my webroot antivirus/antispyware program which picked up something, I think it said "search app" or something similar I'm not really sure and I quarentined but this did not really help, I've went to safe mode and tried to run other programs I have Like Superantispyware and in the middle of the run my computer would shut down. I have been persistent with tyring to run these programs and after a few tries they did complete, I also ran malware bytes, and then cc cleaner, and then advanced system care and they all completed. but just a few minutes ago I tried to give it a last clean up with the cc cleaner in safe mode, and again the computer just shut down instantly. I also notice when I start it in safe mode the itunes player play button is in my toolbar for a second before the other programs come and cover it up. I have tried to clean this up myself but I'm just not having any good luck. Can you please take a look and help me. Thank you very much... Don

I would remove(uninstall completely, disable will not work since it will still work in the background) webroot spyware sweeper and see if that fixes the problem. Just make sure you have a firewall and antivirus running in the background.

More than likely your antispyware software has labeled something as suspicious and is locking your computer down. This has occur to me with some antivirus software, where it would do a hard shutdown for no reason or warning.

If you do troubleshoot it to your antispyware software, just use the free "returnil" it's what I use when I am on the internet as my antispyware software. Works great with XP.

I was just wondering, before I uninstall my webroot, if there is something suspicious running in the background would it be possible to locate it in the hijack this log and remove it from there at all? I apologize for I know you have more knowledge at these things than I do, It's just that I paid 30 US dollars for the webroot antivirus/antispyware program and honestly it's been pretty good about getting rid of things for me, it has caught more stuff than any other program I have used. I don't have a problem with trying something new I was just wondering about the logic of removing the webroot instead of removing the suspicious. Thanks again Jony218.. Don

 

Hi Jony218, Well, I did completely uninstall the webroot program and installed your recommended programs, first I installed AVG, then the returnil, then zone alarm, then I restarted the computer for each time it asked. I then ran the AVG software and it did a "hard shut down" after about 7 minutes. I then started my computer up and did an update to my itunes because, this is when the problem started happening, when I tried to upload an audio cd that had a "block" on it and Still when I restarted my computer, at the beginning of the start up, there is the itunes player on the right side of my toolbar for a couple of seconds before the actual tool bar loads with the programs running (zone alarm, AVG, Returnil, ect.) I then tried to do another sweep with AVG, and I watched the current scan.. this time it did a hard shut down in 4 minuutes and it shut down on "documents and settings/all user/application data/Aol downloads/..." I don't know if that information can help you at all, but that is where I noticed the shutdown. That itunes mini player was never in my start up before I uploaded that cd. when I had the webroot running I should have wrote down what it showed me, but it said that there was something running in my memory. Do you have any idea what this could be?
