I presently have a 16x DVD Rom Drive and a 48x24x48x CD-RW Drive. And I have a new 4x DVD+/-RW dual mode, combo CD-RW drive to install. The Read speeds on the new DVD/CD burner are slower than the present drives, so instead of replacing the present CD-RW, I'm thinking about using the new DVD burner drive in a USB2/1394 External Case Drive Enclosure. This way I can always Read from the 1st DVD Rom drive, write CD's to the 2nd CD-RW drive and write DVD's to the 3rd DVD+/-RW external drive. Will this work ok or is it better to connect directly to the IDE? I will appreciate any input.

It is better to connect it to the IDE cable, i was in the same predicament as you. I just disconnected my other DVD ROM and upgraded the firmware on the DVD Writer to allow for the fast ripping. I would never copy a DVD on the fly anyway.
