I was trying to reinstall windows xp media center 05 in my mother in laws computer I keep getting the error windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem could not read from selected boot disk. since this is an install and I do not have access to any of the os features what are the options? thanks everybody would a new hdd solve this problem?
Hello there, Go into the BIOS and see if the HD is being detected and that it is one of the options to boot from. Also, make sure the CD-ROM is set as the first BOOT device making the HD as the second. I'm assuming you get this message after you select to start from CD-ROM and at the point where everything is loaded and it's time for setup to show the HD? If that doesn't work, open up the case and make sure everything is connected properly; check cables, jumpers, etc... If that doesn't work then give us the exact error message and we'll go from there... wouldn't want you to spend $$ on a new HD if that's not the problem. Do they currently have an OS running on that PC?
No there is no OS on the pc. I get the message during the install after it formats the HDD, it detects it and ask if you want to partition it. Also it will not let me partition it when the numbers show up to choose the size of the partition it is stuck on the numbers and nothing I do will change the numbers. Then it asks the file system choice goes thru format then the message comes up. I pulled the HDD and put it in another computer and formatted it and that did not help, thanks
