Hi all, I've worked on this for hours and can't figure it out. I want to install Real Alternative (I already got Quicktime Alternative up and running fine). I use XP, Firefox, and am an "administrator" on my computer. I try to install and get this: I googled this error message and found some similar issues and followed the advice, mostly using RegEd to give myself Permissions privileges in the various registry folders. Did all that, giving myself all possible privileges (I think) and still can't get past this problem. Help!! JL
You said that you are logged on as Administrator, so you should have full permission to make the changes in the Registry. My only suggestion is to log on as Administrator in safe mode. Now try and set full permissions for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software and and all subsequent keys after that. If you still get errors when setting these permissions, as administrator, you have the option to take ownership of these keys. While in Permissions window, click on Advanced, and click on the Owner tab. You can take ownership of the key from here. Hopefully that will solve your problem. Let me know how it works out.
