Not sure if im posting in right place but hopefully someone can help.

Iv recently just built my own pc, and installed windows xp on it. The xp disc was purchased with a dell machine so although it has installed, im not sure if anything may be missing.
Anyway, installation is complete, but 3 bits of hardware, 2 ethernet controllers and the raid controller have not worked. Iv tried downloading them, but when the downloads complete, they wont open or allow me to use them as driver files. The system says it cant open them. Anyone able to advise how to solve?

    Thanks

I have downloaded all of the updates of windows, and the correct drivers from MSI which is the make of the motherboard. The problem being, windows wont allow me to update the drivers using the downloads as it doesnt recognise any of the driver files im downloading. this is pretty much the same for any file i try download. Im thinking it may be the windows package iv installed as it is meant for a dell as reinstallation. Problem is im not wanting to go out and buy a new windows package unless i know this is the problem. If anyone could advise I would appreciate it.

Been a few different, but the main ones were the driver files which came up as system files, and windows did not recognise them, so couldnt open them or wouldnt let me select them to install them in device manager.
