I just got the starview box and hooked it up to a virgin Media cable. I tried the auto scan but it continues to come back with 0 programs found. Can anyone help please
Hi Yes, first got Menu/System Setup/System Information and if your software is 4.5 or similar it is ok. (If not go here read plenty and update software from The Starview PVR folder) http://eko.4shared.com/ Make sure your cable supply lead is in the correct socket at the back as there are 6 and its easy to get in the wrong one and don't forget to fit a short link cable between tuners to get both tuners working. Then Menu/Installation/ Select your Cable network using right/Left arrow on remote, ie ntl,tw,ex c&w etc, then down to autoscan and wait untill finished. jbvid
Thanks,(software is 4.5) I have tried to follow your instruction but I cannot get any channels. I know it sounds daft but where does the Virgin cable go, the manual says 'Antenna in' Do you also know where the short link cable goes. I have connected the tv to the pvr box via a scart lead. Thanks for your help.
Hi The manual is cr*p, the Virgin cable goes in to Cable 1 Input (top right of the four sockets that are to together. The loop cable goes between Cable loop 1 output (top Left) and Cable 2 input (Bottom right) jbvid
Thanks. I have tried the way you suggested but I still cannot get any programs. Any ideas what else I should do.
No, if you are sure you are selecting your correct provider. Have you previously had any channels picked up on this cable with any other box? Have you a mate with a cable box to try on your cable or your box on his cable? jbvid
Thanks I will check provider again. It might be that Virgin which is not on the drop down list was NTL and before that C&W. I will try them. I have not used any other box on this cable. It might be that I try my mates cable tomorrow. But I will try again now. Apologies for the delay in response but I have to switch the Virgin box on every time I wish to email or go ob the web, so bear with me please. Regards
Hi, I have set the provider as C&W and it worked! However most of the channels are not getting any picture or reception and a message comes up scrambled chammel or poor reception. Do I have to put in new codes etc and where do I get them. Can you help please?
Hi No, the box pvr should be fully autoupdating, but you may need to turn autoupdate on, goto Menu/System Setup/Press ok when Parental Control is highlighted, then i (info) then 2007, you may need to do this a couple of times to get your remote button speed presses correct, you should then be in the 'Cas System' menu, make sure the bottom item 'Auto Update' is set to on. Goto a scrambled channel and wait for it to update can take a minute or so. If you are getting poor reception then that is an obvious problem with you cable supply strength and if you have a splitter in your cable run try without it to proove the point. If you have a very long cable run see if you can tee in closer to the suppliers wall box. Final suggestion if poor reception comes up is to try it on a mates cable line. jbvid
Thanks for your help on this I have been able to get the channels, without your help I would not have been able to, so thanks again regards
Can anyone help. I have recently installed a Box PVR and everything is up and running except ITV 1. I live in the Granada area, if I want ITV Central or London not a problem but the Granada signal keeps freezing, any ideas. I have tried a direct feed without using the splitter but it makes no difference.
Hi seems to be a signal strength problem to me, check all your leads especially the short loop cable between the two tuners. Inputs 4 sockets together at back of box. Main cable Tuner 1 input into top right socket. Loop cable out from top left socket to tuner 2 in bottom right socket, bottom left empty. If all correct you could try a booster. jbvid
All fitted as you suggest. It seems weird that it's just ITV 1. I had problems with CH 4 but there are a few of them that come in so I just swapped them around & found 1 that was fine. I will try a Booster Thanks for your help.
Got it all sorted thanks. My next question is, I used to have Sky which was fed into the bedroom on a remote eye thing from the sky box in the living room. Is it possible to do the same with the box and if so does anyone know how. Thanks
Hi Yes, they will work with a Starview Google or the popular auction site for 'Video Sender' or 'Video Transmitter' jbvid
