    1. Had to replace a CDR unit.
    2. Bought a CD-RW LITEON as replacement
    3. LITEON not recognized by W98SE nor my 5.5 Nero Burning Suite
    4. Went to Nero URL - Applicable updates for LITEON not available
    5. Went ahead and tried to, hopefully, load proper drivers from OEM CD
    6. During intalling process, OEM instructions stated that "all" previous
Nero Burning files must be deleted. I had no choice but to agree.
    7. After deleting and installing the OEM, I looked for a HD backup
scenario. It did not exist. By relacing my CDRW, I had negated my
ability to backup my HD which is the only function I perform with a
    CD-RW.
    8. I want to believe that what I am experiencing is not a case of
    collusion between Ahead and LITEON.
    9. I "did" buy an Epson Photo printer with the phony "reservoir empty"
    warnings. Tell me I'm wrong...somebody.

If you still have your Nero 5 installation disk, I have all the updates that used to be posted on the Ahead web site for Nero 5, if that helps at all.

    Thanks Girg...
I "did" look for downloads from Ahead. Even reflashed the LITEON with an update. There was an update at Ahead, but actually, all I got from Ahead was an offer to upgrade for the same price I could have paid as a new user. Before I take the screwing that Nero is so blatantly offering, I will search the universe for an alternate software provider...or throw the CD-RW in the trash. Please, if you are willing, tell me how to get around this Ponzi scheme. I do have my original Nero Burning 5.5. Most software vendors update for 4 or 5 years. It appears that 4 or 5 months requires an upgrade with Ahead. Live and learn. Peace.
