installing an operating system?

    i would like to apologize if this is in the wrong forum section

    I have a Dell Dimension 4100 with no operating system installed. i would like to know how to install an operating system so that the computer can function again. I have nothing on the hard drive. help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    What operating system are you planning to install on it?

    With windows, you just pop the disc in the drive, let the computer boot, and install away. More details from you are needed before we can provide more information.

    I Plan on installing windows XP Home edition. When i turn on my pc i get a black screen stating that there is "no operating system installed" I would like to know if i have to partition the Hard drive or what steps do i need to take to successfully install XP. help would be greatly appreciated. thank you
