The person/people who told you that obviously don't know what they are talking about.

XBOX's will take 3.5" hdds...no problem. As a matter of fact, it's what most people use. Go get one and be happy...it's the way it was meant to be *BIG SMILE*

See, it's the way to go.
My main XBOX has a 400GB HITACHI Deskstar, 7200RPM, ALMOST 1yr old and going STRONG!!

Not to mention that if you bought a 2.5", the price would probably double what it would cost for a regular 3.5".

I was in the same situation. I just brought a 160gb maxtor with a 8mb cache will it work it is a 3.5" something like that. I have the X3CE flashed with the xectuer bios. In the config live screen there is an option to store the EEPROM to the X3 and restore it from the chip. If I restore the EEPROM and lock the hdd will it work? I will use slayers auto installer to put the M$ dash back on it. but will I need to take any other measures?
    Thanks in advance

Yes it will work. A good program to use for formatting your hdd and locking it is xboxhdm.

Are there any tutorials for this program because I found the readme.txt very hard to follow.
Sorry for being such a noob.
But I would rather do it once than over and over again
Would this feature work goto the URL: http://img483.imageshack.us/img483/2686/dsc001017bp.jpg

    and the next step:
    http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/9123/dsc001029ey.jpg

Its taken with a digital camera but you can still see the screen, lol
Am I along the right kinda lines. And if I restore the EEPROM to it and lock it will it be normal I can replace the MS dash using Slayers auto installer 2.6 which is already burned to a DVD from a previous use.

Again tEChniiQue you AMAZE me with your wise knowlege!
    thanks for your reply.

Why are you messing with your eeprom in the first place?

    He said:
I'm assuming that he's trying to install his new hdd (the 160) and he will need the EEPROM saved to that hdd so it will work in his xbox.

    @gunmetald
If that is not your reason...why do you need the EEPROM unless you haven't already backed it up??
This tutorial should get you off on a good start:http://www.teammodders.com/viewtopic.php?t=87
If I'm not mistaken, there is a tutorial within the program's file as well.

Yes I am installing a new hdd the 160 like you said so what the hell is the other guy saying? I am messing with my eeprom so I can have a bigger hdd in my xbox. So tEChniiQue would the way I was thinking of work?? and how do I check that the eeprom is the same on both hdd's??
    Thanks again

The best thing for you to do is transfer your EEPROM to a your PC and then save it to a floppy disc. Then follow the tutorial I gave you for xboxhdm.

You mentioned about checking to see if the EEPROM was the same on both hdd's...well, that has to be done manually. The EEPROM, if you're not sure, is a chip on the XBOX MB. There is a file on the XBOX HDD called the "eeprom.bin" that holds the information which matches it to the EEPROM chip...you need to transfer that info to the new hdd, your 160 and lock it in order for it to be compatible with your xbox after the formating...that has to be done.

well Im pretty sure the EEPROM is on the hdd now because I used the eeprom tools on the x3 config live screen where you can restore the eeprom from the chip and save it to the chip. I haven't locked it yet becasue I think I have done it wrong. but it says the EEPROM key is the same whwen I look at system info. Also I tryed installing evox etc... and it didn't work on the new hdd does it need to be locked?? before it will do anything because I want to be 100% sure that it will work. thanks

No, it doesn't need to be locked...as a matter of fact, with xboxhdm you create your own .iso disc image and you can put whatever info you want to be loaded to the drive in the folders. I have a default disc with EvoX, AvaL & ULX. So yeah, you can customize the hdd and get it ready with apps, even emulators be fore locking. If for some reason you can't, you won't hurt anything by locking it...if you have the unlock key readily available.

I have to give it to you...most people just jump into it and end up with problems that causes them to have to redo there disc format or worse like rendering their hdd useless.

I hoe this little bit of info s helping you.

Ok I can FTP my box again!! :) so I have backed up C and E and they are on my desktop now I am following this tut http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=244043 is it good?? all feedback would be good.

Basically I want everything the same as my last hdd but want to be able to sign into live (my little brother signed in with my chip on grr.... now I get your hardware has been modified message) Will I still get the your hardware has been modified message if I clone the disk because that seems the easyiest and less confusing way around it! Also where is the eeprom saved on the hdd because I can't find it. or how do I make a backup using EVOX because I can't find it?

First, ass, you don't need to bleep up your eeprom to upgrade hdd's. Second, if your " little brother" signed you into xbox live, and you change anything, you will be banned, which, it seems you are already banned. I f you don't know what you are doing and you obviously don't, go to team executer.com and we will gladly abuse you there.
