I have installed a dvd burner in the past without any problems. Today I tried to change my cd burner to another dvd burner(so I can have two dvd burners) and my cpu keeps making noise and it would recongnize one but not the other. what can I do to make it work?
take out the dvd drive, look at the back face, there should be a very small section with a very small series of pins lined in 2 row,1 on top of the other. there should also be a little plastic(with metal lining) "jumper" now check the top of the drive an their should be a panal that tells you how to position the"jumper"to set it to either "master or slave", now make sure the new drive is set to either master or slave as the old 1 was but remember to check both drives for junper setting as the jumper positions on the pins vary with make! hope this helps
thats odd,you need to make sure you only have 1 master and 1 slave on each channel, that is the port where the cables you used to connect your dvd drives(and harddrives) connects to the motherboard. if you are still only getting 1 image reinstall your burn software, sometimes nnero reads drives like this when you make certain changes, there should be a pull down menu to change to the proper drive but if not try reinstalll. but remember to check ALL your jumper setting to be sure you only have 1 master and 1 slave on that channel
I had one as a slave and one as the master and still no change. I decided to put thing how they were before(cdrw & dvdrw). the computer seems to like it that way? Thanks for your help.
typo mistake, should be drives not dives. ide cables are 40 wire 40 pin or 80 wire 40 pin. they are what hook your hd & rom drives to the motherboard & each other. what drives are on the primary & secondary ide ports on the motherboard??
Ok.. is the new dvdrw drive you are putting in replace of the cdrw drive set to "Slave"? So you will have your original dvdrw drive as "Master" and the new one as "slave"....
try the 2nd dvd burner set as slave onto same cable as your hd. make certain hd is jumpered as master as wd is jumpered differently if used as a single drive.
when I first got my computer it cam with a cdrw and a dvd rom I cahnge the rom to a dvdrw. I want to put a new dvdrw in where the cdrw is at.
it appears the 2 dvd burners don't like each other. the cable they were on, was it a 40wire 40pin or 80wire 40pin?
it is possible that the dvdrw drives dont like each other for some reason, i have seen it a few times... Did you try what ddp said and put the new dvdrw drive as slave on the same cable as your hard drive to see if the drive actually works? As it could be faulty? Mind you if you bought a premade system then jumpers may be set with Cable Select (CS)... Ive attached an image below for you to see where the jumpers are : )
