I purchased a computer six months ago for my son, the computer is a Disney cased computer. He is running low on hard drive space and need all programs. So I back them up on a dvd data, and wanted to change the hard drive, but I'm use to using the floppy to get to DOS and installing a new hard drive and operating system. So my question how do you install windows xp on a new hard drive without a floppy drive to get to DOS? Does anyone know how?
this is what i use........... clone your drive to a larger drive using... Acronis True Image 9.0 Home Complete file and system disk imaging backup and restore software for home and home office users that can protect your entire system and family pictures, videos, music, and important documents stored on your home PC PC cloning — Upgrade to a new system disk without having to reinstall the operating system and applications, or configure user settings http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
I don't now what hard drive your getting, but both maxtor and western digital have the files you need on a cd rom, or you can download them from their website and burn them to a disc. Check in your bios to see if your cd or dvd drive is bootable, and if it is set it to number 1 in the boot order. After that just reboot your computer with your utilities cd in and it will guide you through the process of formatting you new hard drive to have an operating system installed on it. When its done it will ask you for your operating system disc, and you reboot your machine with that in the drive. Or you can clone your HD as mentioned above if you don't want a fresh install.
