i have a hp pavillion desk top pc .i want to install a second hard drive for space only it possible and if so what cables will i need to get i have extra sata cables .but what about the power cable .should an extra one be in yhere already or do i need to get one of those also?????????
SHOULD BE extra power cable but ddp is onto something... Do you know if you even have a motherboard in the HP to accept SATA? Is it IDE? Whichever it is probably has an extra power connector for whichever style it is. You may not need those SATA cables...Open your box and look!
ok sorry could not locate model number . however located sataport 3 is open and located a spare power cable.i know this is probably a dumb question but once installed will my pc take care of the rest all i want to use it for is storage no duel booting or anything like that just storage.sorry to bug im new
once your HD is installed, boot up your computer. go into your control panel, and select "switch to classic view" on the left. open up administrative tools. select computer management. on the tree on the left, click on disk management. you should see your main system drive (C) and your new drive. now you can right click on it, create a partition and format it. thats it.
hey thats great but one thing what is a partition and why do i need it could i just format it or do i have to have a partition? thanks for the fast responses
pretty much if you want to be able to write to it youll have to partition it weither it be one big one or a couple of smaller ones all formating does is (keeping it simple) clear the disk depends on how you format as to what impact that actually has.
