How can I install Win Xp Pro with service pack 2 over Win XP Home with service pack 2 without losing all my application installations. Thank you for your expert assistance.
Just for your knowledge, I have heard from many people that just installing the upgrade doesn't work that well. Everyone recommends to wipe your old windows off, and re install the new version from scratch.
That is true. I don't recommend any upgrades of Microsoft operating systems. They have all failed, or caused severe driver issues, software problems...you name it. That's why corporations take so long in testing new operating systems before deploying them. Even if you get a handful of people standing up to say that their upgrade went fine, no offense....but they are just a handful.
I agree with morph416 its best to format your c drive and install fresh.others may tell you they have no problems and thats because their os havent crash yet.
remember guys lagrange doesnt want to lose all of his applications, i personally did what you are wanting to do lag range, i took the upgrade route and it didnt delete any appz and it wont as long as you dont choose to format your harddrive, the only thing that you will lose is your application data, so for example im a bittorrent user and after i upgraded i lost all of the settings i had and all of the ratios on each individual torrent. but it was no biggy, from personal experience i dont think you will lose any appz, on the startup when you put in the xp pro disk choose upgrade instead of full install, hope this helps
well its good to upgrade but to my opinion its better to re-install windows,re-install all apps. and image it.that way if something should go wrong you can re-install windows with all apps.not an xpert but done it a few times and dont dont have to install everything over agian.maybe this is something you should look into.
man.... kay i was still in the making on making instructions for reformatting a drive..but yeah ill finish later..... BUT anyways, back up all your personal things onto a blank cd, portable hdd, flash drives..etc., just as long you can back up stuff you want... install a fresh windows....SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND it, there are possible errors if you didnt, also installing a fresh windows would delete any virus/spyware you are unaware of and free up space again... because upgrading will seriously take up more space still leaving things from home (which will be no use anymore)...thats my suggestion..hope this gives you thoughts
