My friend has a netbook with the Microsoft CD KEY Sticker for XP (not sure if it was home or pro) on it.

It caught a virus (gives him an error if he tries to do anything) and we are trying to install Windows XP to a netbook for the first time.

I found two videos on youtube:
    Method 1
Using USB flash drive (my friend wants to use an SD Card):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vt_8p0VllY (USB Multiboot Tool)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGdUCMA6oQY (wintoflash) - 1 attempt, sd card gave error hal.dll when he boot to it.

Working USB Multiboot Tool USB flash drives:
    Kingston DataTraveller 100 1GB
    Verbatim 2GB flash drive
4GB HP flash drive (Dell labtop)

    Troubleshooting:
In case anyone hit the same issues as I did : hall.dll error...
I edited the boot.ini file , the partition() showed partition(1) for me, so I replaced the 1 with 2, since it was the second partition, and then, when I got to the GUI menu, i edited the ini file again and put partition(1) all over. And it worked. Thanks :D

    Method 2
Without a USB flash drive (I'm not sure if these methods would work):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J77BJCD__fg (.iso + mount or CD/DVD over network share)

    Questions:
    1. Is it ok to use an SD card for Method 1 videos?

    2. For Method 1 does it only need the i386 files?

    3. Will using an SD Card to USB Adapter work for Method 1?

    4. Would the options in the Method 2 video actually work?

    5. We don't really know what we are doing, so any advice or better guides would be great.

    Thanks!

moved to correct forum as not a pc hardware issue. check 2nd partition as that will be your recovery partition to reload windows. if using recovery disk then use external rom drive as had to do that with a laptop when reloading xp. what is the make & model# of the netbook?

Thanks for fixing my mistake, another friend fixed the netbook (didn't tell me how), so we are done here.

    EDIT
They told me they stopped the virus process in msconfig, don't know if they got rid of it. He already has another virus so oh well.
