Are you asking if you can use the serial # from your Home Edition to install Pro? Home Edition is Home Edition and you need the Home Edition disc. Is there a difference? Yes. Home Edition doesn't have some of the Administrator Tools that are available in Pro like gpedit.msc, which is a powerful tool that can be used to restore settings that were taken over by a virus. I'm pretty sure that the serial #'s are unique to the operating system.

    vballstud is absolutely correct.

In addition, there are several "flavors" of each operating system install disc, and if you don't have the correct flavor for your license key it will not validate.

Ex. If you install Windows XP from the VLK version it will install but will not validate on a 1-2 CPU license key.

I know for a fact that there are at least 2 different flavors of Windows XP home out there.
