Check the condition of the disc itself. If it is scratched more then likley that is your problem. Or maybe the cd drive is not reading the disc correctly.

Thoes are the only reasons that I can think of.

are you saying that when you try to install a new xp again, the messages come up or after?

I am starting to think that the back of the disc may be damaged. That would corrupt the data in one place of the disc. Causing the data in that area not to be corrupt.

So check the back of the disc to see if it is missing any of the backing.

other things can prevent a complete installation of windows, as well. reseat your ram and clean the contacts. be *sure* your hard drive is not on it's way to death. is the pc clean and running cool? are all connections tight and connectors in good condition?

May also have been a bad burned copy that they shipped you. A lot of time when I make back-ups of my old O/S's I occasionally get the same error. When I use a new cd and lower the burn rate it usually fixes it. Try running a copy program with error correction. See if that helps.

What I meant was use DVD decrypter or any other copying software and make sure the read rate is at lowest and error correction tabs are checked. This way the drive doesn't read ahead too far and leaves plenty of resources open for correcting any data read errors. I suggest backing up the disk with DVD decrypter into an ISO file. MOst O/S's can boot from standard ISO image disks, I know mine can.
