hey everyone uhmm today i tried re-installing xp on my old computer. i went through the set up about 5 times all of them failed. i can start the set up by boot disks and i have a standalone wndows xp and a scratched Optima recovery disk. each time it starts copying new files the screen goes blank and it says find the misisng file. how can i reinstall windows xp with a standalone xp disk when my computers not booting up. also if i bought a new hardrive would this solve the problem
A new Hard drive would fix it. but u could try reformating your drive again and making sure u have the correct boot disk. Or even try changing the boot sequence too boot straight off the CD.
how can i reformat it while i still keep getting the black screen it just doesnt let me istall a new copy and plus my recovery disk is scratched i have to use a standalone one.
Well put a boot disk in and let it boot from that and then from A:\. type: format c:\ and once u get that done u should be able to run the setup from the c:\ Plus dont forget to copy command.com back on to the c:\ after the format.
what rom drives do you have in your system because if have a burner than use it instead of regular rom drive to read cd?
it has cd-rw drive anyways windows xp is installed and it works fine now but i have multiple windows xp's on the computer, but im not going to bother trying to delete them untill i get a new and bigger hard drive. also thanks borhan9 and ddp for your help its much appreciated
