hi, i have only 256MB of Ram in my Pentium 4: 2.2GHZ computer. i need more but it wont be here for a while. i have heard that i can convert a bit of my hard-drive into RAM. so my ram will be more. any help or instructions are appreicated asap. thanks
I think your talking about Virtual Memory. Open the Control Panel and click on System, Advanced, Advanced again, then click on Virtual Memory, change. You can increase it from there.
so if i increase this virtual file thingy will it speed up my pc a little. i mean everything takes along time to happen. when i open up task manager my cpu is working at a low percentage but ram is at 237MB and max is 256mb. does increase in virtual memory increase this??? thanks for the help, ur getting me somewhere
the best thing for you to do is to buy a 1mb kit of some good ram.your pc will run so much better.before i built the pc you see in my sign underneath.i had a emachine 2825 with 256mb of ram[memory]the pc ran like crap.when i got the memory for this pc ,i built,i put that in the 2825 and it ran so much faster like 10x faster.ram is the ticket for going faster the virtual ram is ok,but it wont give you the speed memory will give you or to be quite frank, what your looking for.i even heard that the value cheap junk is better then what you have now.to run games nowadays you need at least a gig of ram.if you have dual channel buy a kit of ram[thats 2x512 of ram, matched pair and tested by manu]hope this helps peace
It may help a little but accessing info off a hard drive is very slow compared to having actual ram. Your best bet is to get that extra ram ASAP.
Windows XP will automatically expand the page file (virtual mem) if more is needed. The read/write speed of a hard drive is sooooo slow compared to what the speeds are in ram. Bite the bullet and get at least 512mb minimum. You will think you got a new machine. Ram is the cheapest way to speed up a slow machine. ~Rich
i already have 256mb of ram. if i want to add another 256mb of ram into my computer for the time being. can anyone please help me and tell me how to install it. does it need to be installed onto the computer (or inputed onto some program so it knows there is extra RAM??????) as u see i dont have a clue. thanks for the help!
it is a physical stick of ram that fits into a slot on your motherboard. check your user guide or motherboard manual for location of memory slots.
thats funny, dont know how or what?,go here as ddp puts it teach and learn: http://compreviews.about.com/od/tutorials/ss/DIYDeskMem.htm explains, how to,enjoy....peace
