Hi all I'm pretty new to the hardware side of things so please don't be too unimpressed by my question. Last week i won a Intel Core 2 Quad Core Processor QX6850 LGA 775 CPU in a local raffle & am tempted to install it & was type of motherboard, chip set, ram etc is compatible with it. I do know that the last upgrade i had was many years ago so it is due for an overhaul & i dare say none of the hardware i have at the moment would be able to handle it. Thanks & looking 4ward to your responses!
`put it in the striker it'll go great (not if you are not very proficent) it's a bitch to install if you are not a gamer send it to me i'll use it you'll need to make sure the 775 board will take the chip a lot won't you'll need 2 gigs of 800 ram ddr2 a pci-e graphics card, 8800gtx would be nice a sata harddrive and a sata dvdrw good luck
Might be best to sell the thing on ebay for a huge profit and build something with a Core 2 Duo and overclock it. I doubt that you'll need that much power. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115026
Not true, a lot of newer motherboards today are socket 775, and they support quad cores, core 2 duos, higher end pentium 4s and pentium d. Although a quad core with 1Gb of ram is way overkill, you could still get by. 2GB is probably recommended. Almost all socket 775 mobos (at least 90%) have a PCI-e 16x slot on it. A 8800GTS, 8800GT or 2900 series card will be fine.
I don't do much research so I could be wrong sorry ............. but as I own a shop selling and repairing computers I find the lower end boards mostly will not take the quads and having sent several back because of this I feel it is a valid point.
