I know that the latest technology is intel core..., but really, if you come to think about it, core is typically, a simple way of attracting consumers and leading a new market segments, because it was unnecessary, just like it was unnecessary to upgrade from celeron to pentium.
I can explain why in 4 simple reasons:

1.For core, you have to have a titanium - high waltage cooler, and 3 level heatsink

2.For the pentium, you can plug in a amplifier in the pci slot, and it can UP the speed of the processor by 200%, (check out overclocking on youtube)

3.For the core, it is expensive

4.For the pentium, it is waywaywyaywyaywyaywyaywyay faster, i.e. the rmw of the core is 290, the rmw of the pentium is 396, add that to the ram, and you get 478, (socket 478), the core is 372...

SO WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BUY:
    INTEL CORE 2 DUO, (£250)
    INTEL PENTIUM 4, 3.6ghz PROCESSOR, (£35)
