I'm a little confused on the subject. I want to record some of my vhs's to dvd, and this seems to be a topic of relative importance. Can anyone clear this up: what's the point of either one?
I know i have the interlacing/deinterlacing option with recording on my computer. should i deinterlace?
If you're going to watch it on a TV you should almost never deinterlace since it will pretty much always degrade the quality. The only reasons to deinterlace for TV viewing are if you're either encoding to a format that doesn't support it like MPEG-1 (VCD) or if there are interlace artifacts (jagged lines on the edges of objects) when you watch it on a TV. And don't assume that just because you get these artifacts when you look at the video frames on your PC that you'll see them on the TV. Your TV displays one field (half frame) at a time, but when you look at a frame on your computer you'll see both at the same time so you should expect to see jagged lines, especially in high motion parts.
