    You need to edit out that sn#.
    The first thing you need to do is update that firmware for your pioneer.
    I use 1.18 hacked on my 108 from here http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/ it is toward the bottom of the page. This is the file from the page http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/DVR-108 v1.18 - RPC-1 + 12xRip + nx4all.zip
    If you dont like the idea of instaling hacked firmware on your drive you can get latest from pioneer site.

    @robzter
    The latest firmware is 1.20b - this will 'flash' your drive. Just open the .exe file and it will do it's thing. Just make sure nothing else is running and no discs are in your drive.
    If you get the invalid it could mean that firmware and drive don't match. Make sure you pick the right one.

    Also you will need to know is it a true pioneer or a rebranded oem. I know asus and logitec has drives that are rebranded pioneer 108 drives. Probably more brands where as well. If that is the case you will need the firmware for the specific rebrand if going with original firmware.

    I know you're using good media (Maxell002), but this maybe your problem -- I'm afraid, but it looks like your burner may have reached its life span, see above "KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR". That doesn't look too good. Try to clean the lens with a CD/DVD cleaning kit, make sure all IDE cables are set properly and tight.

    Don't burn at 12X, my suggestion is to burn it at 4X only. I wouldn't even dare to go beyond 8X with top notch media like Yuden, Verbatime "Advanced Azo" and Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan).

    I may be wrong but I think that hardware error is refering to it not having proper write stratigy for the media it is sensing.

    Did the burner come already in the sony? What is the model of the viao will look something like this Sony VAIO RA940GN4. Also is it a pc or notebook?

    What is the model of the pc? I have only found info from sony on 107 drives and some asus that I think are pioneer rebranded. the 107 is in the Sony VAIO PCV-RS630G. There are so many there I can't weed through all them when you can just tell me what the model is.
