Hello, out here in the southwest the general cable internet provider is Cox Communications. Yesterday my internet was shut off and I had to jump through some hoops to get it turned back on because I was caught stealing an episode of "My Name Is Earl". They told me that NBC contacted them with my IP address to let them know. So I was wondering now if this company is somehow monitoring my actions in any way, possibly if I were to download something from a different company.

If they are, how long will they be spying on me for?

Well I appreciate any info on how this works.

    Thanks for your time.

Cox can care less what you do but if reported they will shut you off just to cover there ass. You get somewhat of a 3 strike rule with COX but I don't think they count the strikes until it becomes a real problem. "You can download all you want but it's illegal to share" as quoted by a COX rep.

Cox is a very good ISP so don't stray away from them, just stray away from those P2P sites.

Yeah geestar..agreed. I hear lots of good things about cox. There are certain precautions you really need to take with p2p these days.. Encrypt ALL torrent traffic.. Run safety software..moblock/safepeer..and keep it updated, and if you are really paranoid consider setting up a tunnelling ssh connection to a proxy and locking everything and everybody out of your business.
