    Hey guys,

I have messed up my internet.

Im with virgin media (cable broadband), and have a netgear router. Well recently my internet has become very inconsistent.

The only thing that I can think would be the cause of the problem was a friend connected to my network which came up with an IP address conflict. But this may have nothing to do with it.

My playstation 3 then stopped connecting to the playstation network (it will connect to the internet - but fails when it tries to log in).

Now after lots of messing around with the router, and me not knowing what I am doing, the internet is hardly working. I have made it worse.

But I can still download things at full speed (2.2mbps), but a ping test says my ping is 782ms, jitter 1411ms and it failed to test packet loss.

I must have altered something fundamental, anyone have any ideas what is up?

I reset the netgear router to factory settings, and used the netgear internet setup wizard to connect to the internet. It is also just as bad if I plug my laptop in to the router.

    Please help.

    danky.

Ok well after speaking with technical support they are going to send an engineer out. Annoying thing is it won't be till Monday.

However the internet worked perfectly this morning, ping was great, was even able to play a few lag free games of call of duty. Then half way through the day it just crapped out again. Ping is back to being terrible, and sites take forever to load despite being able to download files full speed.

Can anyone think of a cause for this? I guess I will just need a replacement modem.
