Hi, i have a dsl connection and i am connected through a router. I use a router because i play xbox live. My problem is that i use the internet for about 2 or 3 days, and all of the sudden it disconnects, internet explorer doesn't work, msn messenger doesnt work, i dont know why! My dsl modem is a sbc yahoo Speed Stream, and my router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 version 4. Please help me, i'm tired of this problem. thanks in advance.
Also do a search to see if an upgrade to the router firmware is available. Not dealt with any seperate units, but plenty of routers with in-built modems have problems with dropping out of connection or locking up. Not sure this will sort it though, as the firmware has not been updated since 2003 (version 1.50) If you do need it, then get it here: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...972611&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper
also try and unplugging your dsl modem and your router weekly as this keeps them running tip top . unplug them both waite at least i min or more if you like, then plug the modem in let all the lights go solid then plug your router in . i have been instructed by my ip to do this at least on a mounthly basis as this will reset everything and will usaully increase your speed also. i had similar probs except my were with speed issues so i called my ip and they gave me this idea to help out with droped connections and speed issues . this has solved my troubles . if you find it not to be malware then give it a go
Hey thanks, no i dont have spyware or malware, and i installed the firmware, i hope that solves the problem, im going to wate to see if the internet still disconnect. I already tried disconnecting and reconnecting the router and dsl many times but it didnt work. I hope the firmware upgrade works. Thanks
Arghhhh!!, it did it again!, it disconnected from my msn and the internet explorer. It's weird because I still see the internet lights turned on, on both the modem and the router. This is really tiring me, I have to disconnect all the cables and install the router cd and connect all the cables back on every time it does this. Please if you have any solutions, tell me. Thanks
you could possible try a diferent network card and also be sure that you have one single designated line that cames in to your modem. if there is any splices in that line you may most likely experience these kind of troubles . also it doesnt hurt to inspect all of your lines and connections to be sure no kitty cats or any other animales may have penatrated the lines with there sharp teeth . if all is well for sure !! with your lines than i would test out a new network card or trade modems with someone for a week . or if you have a achient modem go try and buy a new one and let it run to see if the modem is giving you heck . if its not the modem then neatly put everything back in the box and return it to the store . other than that keep asking for help and im sure your answere is right around the corner. and when i ever run into connection issues i call the ip to fix it as most of us high speed users are paying every mounth to protect ourselves against these types of troubles . i would let them fix it if its possible.
Well i don't think it's my ethernet card, nor my dsl modem because i just got my pc and dsl modem, 5 months ago and its not that much time. If i dont use the router, and im only connected throught my dsl modem, the internet works fine. Ill call the linksys company to see if they have a solution, meanwhile if anyone has anymore suggestions please tell me. Thanks
Okay, i went to Linksys and found a newer firmware upgrade, it's 1.5.02. This one will probably work, just one problem, it is a .bin file and i cant open it!, ive tried everything, but i just cant find a way to open it. Can somebody please help me open this file and if you have a solution for my router problem. Thanks Here's the link to the .bin file: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...826220&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper
Ok, i figured out how to open the .bin file. I upgraded my router. Now i am going to wate and see if it disconnects, if it does im going to call linksys so they can help me solve this problem. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do, please tell me. Thanks
Unforunately you are probably doing the only thing possible. I know people who use the same hardware/firmware combination, and some experience known problems and others don't, it just seems to be luck of the draw. The only alternative would be to change the hardware out for something which hopefully wont have the same problem. Maybe go for a combined unit to cut down on the hardware, try pressuring Linksys to expect a return of the unit and getting an upgrade, even if you have to pay the extra.
