Internet Sharing from Network

I was curious if it made a difference.
At home I currently have a network setup with about 3 or sometiems 4 computers. Does it make a difference to the connection if one person is using the internet from a laptop which connects into the main comp which connects to the internet vs. using the internet from the main computer.

(Internet sharing is legal? right? I hope so...)
