intrested in a drive that can do these things.. help me out please

this is my situation i have a tdk 420n dvd+r/rw internal drive, bought it like 5-6 months ago. than suddenly i check the market out and now almost all drives are 8x. therefore i want to jump in the band wagon too. but heres the catch, i actually need the drive to write at 1x too.for ps2 games reason. i have this problem with my tdk 420n drive, the slowest it writes is 2.4-2.5x.. wich can sometimes give me a bad copy of a game. im really intrested in the tdk drives, was thinking about buying the sony dru 530a drive i think its called, but ive noticed that alot of people in different forums are having problems with this drive. from firmware problems, to bad burns, it doesnt recognize its own burns is all this true. well guys i need your help, give me some advice on what i should buy next. with the tdk drive that i own now i never had to do a firmware update on it!. but its just writing to slow. takes like 40-45 mins w/ 4x. using clone dvd w/ anydvd. peace and let me hear your comments.
