I will compile several VOBs with DVD Shrink in the re-author mode and want just make a first "intro" page with author logo(static or rotating) and movie name, which will be shown when insert DVD for 4-5 sec then start play clips. This is not active page for main navigation, this is just intro page. Does it possible?
You could use Windows Movie Maker (WMM) to do it: Use an existing image or create one using PhotoShop or Windows Paint (pixel size for an NTSC clip is 720x480) 1. In WMM, go into Tools -> Options > Advanced and set video properties as required (NTSC/PAL and 4:3/16:9) 2. Import your picture ("Import pictures" on the left panel menu) and drag the picture onto the storyboard. The default duration is already 5 seconds. 3. Save your movie (File > Save Movie File > My computer and when you get to the Movie Setting step, click "Show more choices..." and select Other settings: High quality video (NTSC) (or PAL if required) 4. If you use DVD Flick to convert the movie to DVD, after you add the movie highlight it and click "Edit title...". Under Video Sources, make sure you set the "Pixel aspect ratio" correctly to 4:3 or 16:9 (DVD Flick can't seem to detect the correct ratio for this kind of movie).
thanks for tipps. So first Windows Movie Maker will produce .wmv file, then we need convert it to VOB file?
Yes, it has to be converted. You can do the same thing with VirtualDub (it outputs an AVI file). The difference is that after dragging the image file in VirtualDub, you use Ctrl-c to copy and Ctrl-v to paste (holding down the keys until enough frames are duplicated. (At 10fps, for five seconds you would create fifty frames then save the result using 'File' => 'Save as AVI). The output would be uncompressed AVI - but since it is only a few seconds, the file is quite small. If you wished, you could select a compressor (XviD?) from the 'Video' menu.
is there way directly convert JPEG image to DVD? Also, which file format need be the output file that I could compile it with the rest VOB files? VOB or M2V?
I don't know of a program that will convert a .jpg image to DVD format in one step (that is without going to an intermediate step first). If you convert it to DVD format (a 'VIDEO_TS' folder containing the required .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files)then you can add it to an existing DVD title using DVD Shrink. The result is a DVD with two (or more) titles. There is a slight, perceptible delay on playback between the titles.
is seems there was some Photo DVD wizard that was able to convert photo to dvd http://www.ptshare.com/photodvdwizard.html so if we compile several VOBs into one DVD with DVD Shrink in re-author mode there will be some delay on playback between the clips?
There is a delay, but depending on the context of the movie(s) it may not signify. An example might be where you are placing your 'intro' page with the main title. A delay might be tolerable or even desirable. To eliminate the pause - after your creation is complete - you can demux the whole thing with Dgindex and reauthor it again with the likes of DVD Flick. As long as the demuxed files are DVD compliant (e.g. PAL/NTSC .m2v files), then DVD Flick has the option of copying them instead of encoding. This is much faster and there is no quality hit from re-encoding. Good luck.
