    Hello and thanks for reading.

I have been having a lot of trouble burning disk recently. I cant tell if the problems with Nero or my burner.

The key thing is I am getting the error message "Invalid Block Address" and burns failing a lot. This is happening with Audio and data disks. I have had the error in Nero and the fast burning plugin for Media player.

What makes me think it might be the burner and not nero is that I have been having a lot of trouble with the built in burner in media player. What happens here is the disk just starts closing randomly at diffrent times through the burn.

I have included two log files to give you an idea.

I have tried burning with the folowing media - Philips CD-R80 52 x
Mr. Data CD-R80 and Infiniti Professional CD-R Printable 730mb 52x.

My burner id a Philips PCRW5224K/00 with firmware updated with the download from philips website.

I tried chanding from track - at - once to disk - at - once in nero and vice versa but this did not help.

    Thanks For info.

I checked the DMA status under my NVIDIA nforce 3 250 parallel ATA controler and it states that:
    Primary channel
harddisk is set as "Ultra DMA 6 Ultra 133"
    and on the Secondary Channel
DVD drive set as "Multi word DMA 2"
Burner set as "Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra33"

Any ideas why nero thinks DMA is switched off and if DMA is or is not switched off.

Also the log examples I gave were for data burns. I was tring to burn a slipstreamed Windows Xp sp2 cd.

Thanks for info on audio burns though. I will 16 or less in future.

I cannot explain that one, did you follow the guide that I provided.

I followed the guide as best I could. There was no advanced tab on my system but a seperate tab for each of the ide channels. As such there was only one driver tab so i uninstalled the driver and let the system reboot. This did not work. I also downloaded the latest drivers for my chip from nvidia and this has not changed anything.
Also I discovered from the info tool that I did not have a windows aspi install so I downloaded the install from adaptec per another site I found and installed. This has not helped.
I tried another burn and Nero still reports no DMA yet the IDE drivers indicate they are switched on. I have included the next log.

Note I feel the problem must be the drive or DMA problems discovered as I had aprox the same problem with built in burner not completing. Just no error logs with it to help.

Any further ideas would be great.

    Thanks.

I take it from this last log supplied you are trying to burn CDs(music). Your burn speed still shows as 40X which as I said is way too fast.
Exactly what are you trying to do?

    [bold]BTW These discs are CRAP[/bold]

This is obviously the problem along with your crappy discs, how to turn this particular DMA on is beyond me.
All you can do is sit back and wait for someone to come along who possess that knowlege, good luck.

PS try any other type of disc other than anything made by CMC Mag.

Went back to those after I coastered a pile of infiniti and philips disks. Thanks for your input.

I am going to try e-mailing MSI (Motherboard) and ask if they can explain why DMA is being reported as off when the driver indicates that it is on.

    [bold]Solved[/bold]

I have now found a solution.

What the forum was saying about the log files showing DMA as turned off kept me thinking.

I tried the sugestion from the link to have the system reinstall the drivers but this kept returning to the same problem.

In the end what I needed to do was go to Add/Remove programs.

    Go to Nvidia drivers.

Told it to only uninstall the Nvidia IDE drivers.

The system then restarted and found the Microsoft Drivers.

These have installed. The Nero log file now shows DMA as active and the system is now burning without any problems.

Question is. Will Nvidia or MSI give me spindle of CD-R's to replace the ones coastered due to the software they provided with the motherboard!!!

Many thanks for the input provided.

    Francis.

I'm trying to solve a DMA issue that sounds a lot like this one. It's on my mother in laws Dell Demension E510. I installed a dvd rom drive to use with her burner so she don't have to change discs when she is backing up her dvd. when I go to device manager She has 2 primary Ide channels then a secondary Ide channel The rom is a ben q 1650v it shows up as the second primary Ide channel and when I check it it says DMA if avavl. and Pio mode underneath it. I have tried uninstalling this driver several times and it keeps staying in the pio mode. Also under Nero DMA manager it shows the burner DMA checked and the Ben Q not checked so I check it and restart the computer with no change. Any ideas? I having a hard time with this one. Thanks in advance

Till last few days, my DVD burner was very much fine. All the devices were in DMA mode including the hard disk.
Suddenly from the day before,it started burning a DVD for 24 min instead of 8 min while writing in 8x.
When i checked out the reason, the harddisk was not in DMA mode.It showed DMA off in Nero INFO tool. Moreover the system performance is too worst. Its very slow.So i think that the harddisk not being in DMA mode is the major cause behind everything.Right?
So wat do u wan me 2 do?how can i turn the hard disk to DMA mode?
    How is it possible?
    Pls reply to this post.
